Personalization lets a buyer design their own version of your product before they buy it. They open a designer, place their text or image, submit it, and you produce that exact design.

Why It Works This Way

Etsy does not let apps put a custom designer inside a listing page. The only field Etsy gives you for buyer input is Personalization, and it accepts plain text. So Mockspark works with what Etsy allows. The Personalization field carries a link to the designer and collects a short ID that points back to the design the buyer made. It takes the buyer one extra copy and paste, and everything else is automatic.

Turning It On

On the publish form, switch on Let buyers customize this design, then publish.

Mockspark adds a required personalization question to your Etsy listing:
  • The question is labelled Customization ID
  • The instructions read Open https://app.mockspark.com/guest/customize?p=etsy&ref=<your listing id> to design, then paste your ID here
  • The field accepts up to 36 characters, which is exactly the length of one ID
The link is unique to that listing, so the designer always opens the right product.

What the Buyer Does

Opens the link

The buyer copies the address from the personalization instructions and opens it. No account and no login.

Designs the product

They pick a variant, add text or upload an image, and see it on the product as they go.

Submits and gets an ID

When they are happy, they click Submit customization. Mockspark saves the design and shows a 36-character ID with a copy button.

Pastes the ID back on Etsy

They return to your listing, open Add personalization, paste the ID into the Customization ID box, and add to cart as normal. The character counter reads 36 of 36 when the ID is complete.

When the order reaches Mockspark, it reads the ID, finds the design, and builds the print file from it. You do not need to match anything up by hand.

When a Buyer Skips the ID

Some buyers will type a message into the field, or paste something that is not an ID, or buy without designing at all. Mockspark cannot produce anything in that case, so the order arrives marked Unfulfillable in your order list. Open it and the page tells you exactly what went wrong and what the buyer actually typed, so you know whether they misread the instructions or skipped them.

You have a way out. Click Copy redesign link, then send that link to the buyer through Etsy messages. It opens the designer locked to the size they already paid for, so they cannot accidentally design for the wrong variant. Once they submit, the order becomes producible and moves on as normal.

Nothing is charged for an order in this state. It sits on hold until the buyer supplies a design that matches what they ordered. If the buyer never responds, click Cancel order item and refund them on Etsy. Cancelling in Mockspark only updates the status there, it does not refund anyone.
Refunds always happen on Etsy. Mockspark never moves money and never contacts your buyers.

Good Listing Copy Helps

Buyers move faster when the listing tells them what is coming. A line in your description such as “Click the link in the Personalization box to design your item, then paste the ID it gives you” cuts down on orders that arrive without an ID.
